פיתוח ישראלי: הדברה ירוקה,

ללא שימוש בחומרים כימיים רעילים – באמצעות טכנולוגית הארה במיקרוגל המספקת מענה למגוון רחב של צרכים. מאחורי החידוש החשוב הזה, עומד צוות פיתוח מהמרכז האוניברסיטאי אריאל שבשומרון ובראשו ד"ר משה עינת ודני חרדון (מנהל פרויקט) בשיתוף מומחים לנושאי הדברה, הנדסה ואגרונומיה. כיום מבצעים בעולם פעולות הדברה באמצעות כימיקלים ורעלים. הם משמשים לטיפול בפגעי צמחייה (עשבים שוטים, יבלית, עלקת), חרקים המזיקים לאדם ולרכוש (קרדית אבק הבית, מזיקים החודרים לרהיטי עץ, פרקטים), חרקים הניזונים מגידולים חקלאיים ומחסלים אותם, מכרסמים (עכברים, חולדות) וטפילי עופות (כמו יונים). אבל בעת ביצוע ההדברה באמצעות הרעלים והכימיקלים השונים, עולה מיד גם בעיית הזיהום המתלווה להם. בעיקר החשש שהחומרים יחדרו למי התהום, למקורות מים, יפגעו בגידולים חקלאיים בבעלי החיים ובסופו של המסלול הזה ימצאו דרכם גם לבני האדם, יחדרו לגופם ויזיקו לבריאותם. לאור כל זאת נולד במרכז למקורות קרינה ושימושים במרכז האוניברסיטאי אריאל, הרעיון לפתח את מכשיר ההדברה החדשני המתבסס על הארה אלקטרו-מגנטית בתדרי מיקרוגל. ההארה (בעוצמה של כ-1,000 וואט) תגרום לחימום יתר של האובייקט וכך תדביר אותו באמצעות אפקט תרמי. "ערכנו בנושא זה סדרת ניסויים במעבדה וגם במדשאות ובערוגות והצגנו היתכנות מדעית וטכנולוגית לשיטה הנקייה הזאת", מסביר ד"ר עינת. השיטה פועלת באופן הפוך לשיטות המקובלות הקיימות: בעוד שבשיטות הקיימות פעולת ההדברה מתבצעת לאורך תקופה ארוכה ולאחר שהמדביר פיזר את הרעל החומר נספג או התפזר לתוך הסביבה. בשיטה החדשה פעולת ההדברה מתרחשת אך ורק בזמן שהמדביר (מפעיל המכשיר) נמצא בפועל במקום ומפסיקה לחלוטין כשהוא עוזב, כך לא נשאר שום זיהום בשטח.
